Getting questions about bag care!
The beautiful vache / vachetta leather utilized as trim by Vuitton is always at risk. The desire for a beautiful golden patina is the obvious but recently the use of one of those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers was recommended for surface dirt - I tested this out and the discoloration was disconcerting. I also felt that perhaps damage was being done since it almost "sanded" some of the outer layer. For surface dirt or the evening out of color - may I suggest saddle soap? I am quite impressed by the results - and the texture remains soft - just let it dry thoroughly and keep around old flannel for buffing. It does help to even out rain drops. Remember...ink is the enemy. On vinyl...ink can sometimes be tackled with butter (it "brings it to the surface" and can be wiped off a bit). I am afraid to try this with leather. By the way, something oily will look bad on leather at first - but rub it in - it will eventually be absorbed by the leather.
OK - why is this important? All things should we be well cared for and loved. It doesn't matter the cost, what matters is that it is yours and important to you. Sometimes, I want to buy something used because it was made a craftsman and is laying there without proper care. I know, I am hopeless...
